私はここにいますが、私のカバンはまだ旅をしています

　「航空手荷物はなくしません」という新聞記事を目にしました。国際線の手荷物は、タグにバーコードをつけて処理していますが誤送や紛失が多発している。そこでIC(集積回路）を付け電波を利用して正確に管理するシステムの実験に着手するという内容です。私が驚いたのは、現在、200個に1個の割合で、手荷物が別の航空機に積み込まれて、目的地に届かないというくだりです。

　チェックインした外国のお客様が「私はここにいるけれど、私のカバンはまだ旅行中です。航空会社から送られて来たら受け取っておいて下さい」となれた調子で平然と言います。

　去年、家内とスウエーデンに行って空港に着いた時です。ターンテーブルが回り終わっても私の荷物が出てきません。荷物の中には、これから会うお得意さんへのお土産、旅行日程表、洗面用具から現金まで入れてあります。無くなったら旅行ができなくなると思ったとたん、頭から血が引いて行きます。航空券についているクレームタグ（荷物引換証）を見せて、窓口の係員に「私の荷物が出て来ない」と叫びました。係員は、それを見て「これは隣りの場所だ」と指差します。行って見ると、誰も居ない止まったターンテーブルの上に、私の荷物がぽつんと取り残されていました。

　先日、ロンドンから7日間の予約をした人がチェックインしました。「私の荷物がどこかに行ってしまった。航空会社から連絡があったら聞いておいて下さい」と言います。
毎日、航空会社からまだ荷物が見つからないという連絡が入ります。4日目になってやっと見つかったと電話がくると、当の本人は「必要なものは入ってないから、日本に送らないでロンドンに送り返して下さい」と航空会社の人に言っていました。

　身の回りの必要なものは手荷物に入れ、現金やカード。パスポートなどの貴重品は身に付けているので、一週間ほどの旅ではカバンが着かなくとも、何も困らないのかも知れません。「旅行カバンにお金を入れないのですか」と一度尋ねたことがあります。「そんな馬鹿なことはしません」と、一言のもとに言われました。旅慣れた欧米の人から見ると、私の旅支度などは、まだまだ足元にも及ばないようです。

Episode 12

My suitcase is on board, though I am here.

　I saw a news article that “we do not loose any luggage on board”.  It is quite often those luggages are miss delivered or lost on international flights though they are handled with barcode on the tags.  So, it said that to control the luggage information with IC tip with micro wave.  I was very surprised to know one out of 200 is loaded on wrong airplane and undelivered.

　Some foreign visitors say upon their arrival when they check in “Please receive my luggage as my suitcase is still on board and to be delivered.

When I arrived at the airport in Sweden, I did not find my suitcase though turntable finished to move.  There were souvenirs, itinerary, toiletalies and cash in there.  It made me pale as I thought I can not travel without it.  I shouted to the clerk that my suitcase does not come out showing him my claim tag.  He said I should go to the next table and there is only my suitcase left there.

　A customer who is from London for 7 days checked in and says his luggage went somewhere so, please leave message when I hear from something from the airport.  I hear from the airport that they could not find the suitcase everyday.   When I heard that they finally found it on forth day, he said he no longer needs it so tell them to return it to London.

　He would not be in trouble for a week or so as he has cash, card, passport and some other necessary staff.  I once asked that if he put cash in his suitcase.  I was told at once that he does not do such a silly thing.  It seems that my preparation for the trip is still to progress.
